A Day In Rosa Brook

a-day-in-rosa-brook

Margaret River is a popular tourist destination for a reason – there are plenty of great activities to include on your agenda, from the amazing wineries and dining spots to the spectacular coastline and its world-class beaches. Head inland for 10 minutes and come upon Rosa Brook, the charming village in which you’ll find Brown Hill Estate and our friendly cellar door. So what else can you do in our local neighborhood? Find out in this blog post that provides all the insights for a great day out in Rosa Brook. We’ve compiled a jam-packed itinerary for travellers coming to our region, from where to start your day with the best coffee, to berry picking, lunch locations and wineries. You’re welcome.

Yahava Kwik Koffee Drive Thru

First stop, coffee. Start your day fuelled by a brilliant brew from the specialists at Yahava Kwik Koffee. All the beans are roasted and blended on site, so you can be assured of a fresh brew crafted with flavoursome beans. Plus, who doesn’t love a drive-through café?

Temper Temper

Extend the buzz after your coffee by dropping into artisan chocolate maker Temper Temper in the same complex. The two chocolatiers, Roz and Georgia, craft chocolate from sustainably farmed cacao and the range is as wide as it is delicious. Temper Temper is not just chocolate. Think local fruit, nuts and spices, all mixed up to make inspired combinations like Caramel Popcorn in Dark Chocolate, Chilli with White Chocolate, Crunchy Mint in Milk Chocolate… or the signature concoction of Wild Amazon Chocolate made from organic wild cacao beans foraged from the Bolivian Amazon. The café also serves light meals if you need to step away from the sugar and fuel on hearty fare for the day. It’s a really fun place with a great vibe.

Vasse Virgin Margaret River

Right next door to Temper Temper is Vasse Virgin, a producer of all-natural handmade skin and body care developed for all skin types. Most of the products are made with Australian extra virgin olive oil made using the traditional cold-press method and the finest quality natural ingredients. Drop in to sample the raw handcrafted soap bars, luxurious body products such as aftershave, shampoo, body lotion and facial cleanser. Visitors can wander through the soap factory to witness the production process and speak to the friendly staff to learn about the benefits of Vasse Virgin’s natural products and its therapeutic benefits. There’s also the opportunity to join one of the DIY workshops and master classes. Hungry? Enjoy sampling the gourmet food range, including lemon and garlic olives and hot chilli dukkah.

Brown Hill Estate

From Vasse Virgin head to Brown Hill Estate at number 925 Rosa Brook Road, where we’ll be waiting to serve you at our friendly cellar door, which sits at the heart of our boutique family-run winery. Jim or Gwen Bailey will talk you through our range of wines, and their knowledge of the Margaret River region, our wines and our vineyards is exceptional. Our wine-tasting experience takes visitors on a journey through Brown Hill Estate’s three ranges. Our cellar door is located inside the winery, so visitors can observe the winemaking process as it happens throughout the year.

The Berry Farm

After tasting at Brown Hill, turn west onto Rosa Brook Road and head to The Berry Farm’s Cottage Café for lunch. Our morning tea favourite is scones with jam and cream. (The quaint blue wrens fly onto your table when you’re finished to enjoy the leftover jam!) Our lunch favourite is most certainly the beef and red wine pie. Simply delicious. There’s a kids playground to entertain the little ones and you can wander into the Berry Circle where strawberries, mulberries, currants, gooseberries, raspberries and blueberries grow and are often ripe for the picking! Don’t forget to head into the store to go home with a handful of the gourmet jams, preserves, sauces and syrups.

La Scarpetta

Dinner time? Head to our favourite local Italian La Scarpetta. Its menu showcases all the wonderful local ingredients from Margaret River, as well as speciality ingredients imported from Italy. Pastas are made daily and the menu changes with the seasons. End your day in Rosa Brook with Tortelli ai Funghi, home-made pasta parcels with a porcini and forest mushroom filling tossed in butter and sage.
