MEDICINE THAT'S EASY TO TAKE
A couple of recent visitors to the cellar door were really enjoying tasting our stable of wines. As they sipped their way through the reds they became more and more animated with every sip. By the time they had tasted the last one – our legendary ‘Big Bill Bailey’, the lady turned to me and exclaimed with delight, “These wines are so good you could rub them on your chest!”
A HELPING HAND
Being a family winery we’re actively involved in our local community – here in Margaret River there’s always someone to lend a hand, and our close networks helps everyone through the toughest of times. I’m a volunteer in the Bush Fire Service for the local Rosa Brook area. It’s one of 750 Brigades in WA, made up of approximately 25,000 volunteer bush fire fighters – and we’ve already attended a number of fires this season.
To help raise funds, the Rosa Brook Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade has put together a calendar. I’m in the photo for October 2010, titled ‘Thirst Aid’ – it’s a nice twist on ‘re-hydrating’ the fire fighters after a hard day’s work!

THE PERFECT WEDDING QUESTS
I was recently talking to customers at the cellar door who had made the trip down from Perth, and the conversation turned to how they’d heard about Brown Hill. They said they were about to attend a wedding in Canada and on the Bridal Registry, amongst the list of toasters and electric knives, the bride and groom had asked for “A case of Brown Hill wine.”
So the wedding guests thought they would call in and pick up a case, and sample our wares while they were here.
We hope the wines made it safely to Canada and wish the happy couple a long and prosperous marriage … helped along by regular sips of lovingly cellared Brown Hill wines!
BILL BAILEY’S LEGENDARY ‘WOBBLY’ EFFECT
At the Perth Good Food and Wine Show recently, showing Brown Hill wines to an appreciative crowd, I was approached by a couple who had never tried our wines before.
After sampling each one, they keenly discussed with each other the intense aromas, flavours and textures they were experiencing.
After tasting the Bill Bailey Shiraz Cabernet, the lady put down her glass, grabbed her husband’s arm as her eyes widened and enthused, “I can’t believe the quality of this wine. My palate’s gone all wobbly!" |
THE HUMAN TOUCH
A gentleman recently drove three hours from Perth and came directly to our cellar door.
When I asked how long he was staying in Margaret River he replied, “I only drove down to buy two cases of the 2007 Chaffers Shiraz, then I’m driving straight back to Perth.
When I told him that he could have had the wine delivered to Perth free of charge he said, “But I love visiting your cellar door – it was well worth the drive!”
HOLIDAY ESSENTIALS
One of the things we enjoy most about the Cellar Door is meeting our regular visitors who come back year after year. Like the couple who call in to visit us and stock up with our wines every year for their annual holiday in Kununurra.
“We’ll have two cases of Fimiston,” the wife said. “We’re in Kununurra for two weeks each year, so I like to make sure we have enough wine while we’re there.”
“The thing is,” interjected her husband, “by the time we get to Kununurra, there’s never any wine left!”
Perhaps next time they’ll leave with a few extra cases? |
