2006 Chaffers Shiraz
“Earthy chocolate nose – smells a bit like plum pudding. Great flavour and richness. Drink now or cellar – if you can.”
Winestate Magazine, Special Edition 2007 Wine of the Year
“Elegant cool-climate shiraz. Lifted peppery nose and sweet fruit palate with a minty edge.”
Winestate Magazine, Special Edition 2007 Wine of the Year
‘You often hear that Margaret River wines are expensive. Some are but some like this absolute little gem are not. In fact, they are too bloody cheap….…This one is an immensely powerful shiraz oozing thick dark fruits with tremendous flavour. It has savoury spicy aromas and full ripe dark palate. The good part is that this is a wine you could happily leave in the cellar for five to eight years, though I’d have trouble keeping my hands off it.’
Ray Jordan, The West Magazine – The West Australian, 24 February 2007
2006 Hannans Cabernet Sauvignon
“...minty style with delicate, leafy aromas and very elegant cassis/tobacco leaf palate.”
Winestate Magazine, November/December 2007
2006 Fimiston Reserve Shiraz
“Oh boy, this is seriously good for a cabernet under $20. Elegance personified, with a silky fine palate of blackcurrant and light leafy mint. Beautiful expression of the variety.”
Western Australia, Ray Jordan’s Guide to Wine 2008
“Elegant cool-climate shiraz. Lifted peppery nose and sweet fruit palate with a minty edge.”
Winestate Magazine, Special Edition 2007 Wine of the Year
‘One for the cellar: If you’re fond of a flavoursome kangaroo fillet and a good red, grab a couple of bottles of Brown Hills 2005 Fimiston Reserve Shiraz. Enjoy one now with that fillet and put the other aside to develop for anything up to 10 years in the cellar. This is a full-bodied Margaret River wine with intense flavours of ripe black cherries that come from being grown in non-irrigated soils, and is great value at $25.’
David Ellis, North Shore Times Sydney, 26 January 2007
“The 2006 Fimiston Reserve is garnet hued and has scents of brandied cherries and vanilla beans. Smooth, ripe blood plum flavour comes through on the front of the palate and dark chocolate, blueberry and anise fruit characters meld with savoury oak on the middle palate. Soft spearminty tannins feature at the finish. It would be good with chicken mignon, pork chops or warm rare beef salad with walnut dressing.”
John Lewis, Uncorked, The Newcastle Herald, December 2007
“Fimiston Reserve Shiraz is sensational value at the $25 mark. The best wine is made in the vineyard and the raw material is everything. A full bodied red...the Fimiston has a rich cherry nose with some welcoming earthy characteristics followed by mouth filling and slightly spicy velvet fruit. The long tannin finish suggest some serious keeping prospects but very drinkable now.”
John Quessy, Newsmonth December 2007
‘The rousing full-bodied flavours of 2005 Fimiston Reserve Shiraz and 2005 Ivanhoe Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, both $25, point to very smart winemaking. Both wines are drinking smoothly at present and will only get better in the next three years.’
John Fordham, The Sunday Telegraph, Feb 2007
